Hot Breathing - 342-0305

The class teaches breathing synchronous with muscle movements. That makes you a better breather. Better breathing increases metabolism, enhances stamina & longevity. Participants burn 500 to 1000 calories in one hour with benefits to muscle tone, lungs & heart health and many important health matrices. Did you know to burn 1 pound of fat you need to breathe in about 1 ½ pound of Oxygen? Therefore good breathing is a better fat burner. Although it is a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) without any equipment, participants can pace at their own ability, may that be 90 years old, 90 pounds overweight or even a competitive athlete. Athletes improve performance with better breathing. The participants improve blood test results including diabetes, high blood pressure & cholesterol. Intermediate Yoga with Dr. Bortz - 342-0102

This class is perfect for students with some yoga experience who are ready to challenge themselves learning more advanced poses. The style is loosely based lyengar yoga with focus on alignment. Basic poses, breathwork, relaxation and yoga philosophy form the core of the class. Headstand, shoulderstand & more advanced variations of the beginning poses will be taught at the students own rate. Small class so lots of individual attention. Yoga mat, firm throw blanket, two foam blocks & a ten foot yoga strap with buckle are required & are available through the instructor. Yoga has an amazing positive effect on the aging body. You can regain strength, flexibility & balance. Learn to face life's aggravations with equanimity. This fun class, taught by a medical doctor, is designed for students over age 50 who might be intimidated by or unable to do a standard yoga class. Poses are modified to the needs of the individual student. Currently there are students from their 50's to their mid 80's in the class, who vary from the quite fit to those who require modifications. You do need to be able to get up from the floor unassisted. We will learn yoga poses, breath work, relaxation, & yoga philosophy.
