Hot Breathing - 242-0305

Build core strength, burn belly fat, lose weight, and become fit. The
class teaches breathing synchronous with muscle movement for a fit
body and meditation for a relaxed mind. This is based completely on
medical science and not on any belief system. Hot Breathing makes
you a better breather and Meditation acts as a stress reliever. Better
breathing increases metabolism, enhances stamina and longevity.
Participants burn 500 to 1000 calories in one hour with benefits
to muscle tone, lungs and heart health and many important health
matrices. Did you know: to burn 1 pound of fat you need to breathe in
about 3 pound of Oxygen (about 1000 liters) and breathe out about 1
pounds of CO2 (over 200 liters of CO2, plus a small amount of water)?
Predominantly you lose weight by breathing out CO2. To burn fat you
need to breathe in lots of oxygen. Therefore, good breathing is a better
fat burner. Better breathing enhances oxygen supply in the blood and
simultaneous activation of muscles increases demand of oxygen.
This exercise balances supply of oxygen with its demand. Although
it is a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) without any equipment,
participants can pace at their own ability, may that be 90 years old,
90 pounds overweight or even a competitive athlete. Athletes improve
performance with better breathing. The participants improve blood
test results including diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Mindfulness and Progressive Relaxation is a part of the movement
of muscles. The last half hour is dedicated to Active Meditation
relieving stress. Please bring Yoga mat, towel, water and come in gym
attire.

The class builds on more basic poses and presents the the option of learning head stands and shoulder stands and more advanced variations of basic poses at your own rate. Small class with lots of personal attention. Yoga
mat, firm throw blanket, two foam blocks and a 10 foot yoga strap with buckle are required and are available through the instructor.

Yoga for Students Over 50 with Dr. Bortz - 252-0109

Yoga has an amazing positive effect on the aging body. You can regain strength, flexibility & balance. Learn to face life's aggravations with equanimity. This fun class, taught by a medical doctor, is designed for students over the age of 50 who might be intimidated by or unable to do a standard yoga class. Poses are modified to the needs of the individual student. Currently there are students from their 50's to their mid 80's in the class, who vary from the quite fit to those who require modifications. You do need to be able to get up from the floor unassisted. We will learn yoga poses, breath work, & relaxation.
